A shoe that loses its shape or a handbag that sags at the base usually has one thing missing: a good stiffener. White stiffener sheet gives a finished product its structure, and choosing between the two thicknesses we supply, 1.25 mm and 1.5 mm, is easier than it looks.
What a stiffener sheet does
It is a firm, flat sheet that sits inside a product to hold its shape. Our white stiffener sheet is stiff yet flexible, so it gives structure without cracking. It is lightweight, so it adds support without adding bulk, and it is easy to cut and mould into detailed shapes.
Where it is used
- Shoe counters and toe puffs: keeps the heel cup and toe box in shape
- Handbag bases: stops the bottom from sagging under load
- Backpacks: gives panels and bases a clean, firm form
- Leather jacket collars: helps the collar stand and hold its line
1.25 mm or 1.5 mm?
| 1.25 mm | 1.5 mm | |
|---|---|---|
| Support | Lighter, more flexible | Firmer |
| Good for | Parts that need to bend a little, such as collars and softer shoe parts | Parts that carry load, such as bag bases and backpack panels |
If you are unsure, test both on a sample piece. The right choice is the thinnest sheet that still holds the shape after the product is finished and used.
Tips for better results
- Cut a paper pattern first, then cut the sheet to match.
- Keep sheets flat and dry in storage.
- Check how the stiffener sits against the lining and outer material before you start production.
