Two foams can look the same on the shelf and feel completely different under a person. That is why manufacturers ask us the same question again and again: should I use 32/16 density or 50 density PU foam? Here is a plain answer.
The short answer
Choose 32/16 when you want a soft, light foam. Choose 50 when the foam has to carry weight and keep its shape under pressure.
Side by side
| White PU Foam 32/16 | White PU Foam 50 | |
|---|---|---|
| Feel | Soft and light | Firmer, extra firm support |
| Thickness options | 8 mm, 10 mm | 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16 mm |
| Best for | Shoe insoles and sandals, sofa cushions, mattress toppers, car seats | Premium sofa seats, industrial padding, orthopedic mattresses, truck seats |
| Colour | White sheet | White sheet |
Choose 32/16 if you make
- Insoles and sandals, where comfort and low weight matter
- Sofa cushions and mattress toppers that should feel soft
- Car seat comfort layers
Choose 50 if you make
- Premium sofa seats that carry daily load
- Truck seats and industrial padding
- Orthopedic mattresses that need firm support
A note on density and firmness
Density tells you how much foam is packed into a given volume. Firmness is how hard the foam feels when you press it. They are related but not the same, so always check a sample before you order in bulk. If you need a thick, soft layer for toppers or pillows, also look at our White Hitlon Foam Sheet in 20 to 50 mm.
How to order the right foam
- Decide the product and who will use it.
- Pick the thickness you need from the options above.
- Ask for a sample and test the feel.
